Abstract:
These are visible-band orthophotos along part of the Yellowstone River in Park County. The upper end of the imagery is near the US 85 bridge 20 miles north of Gardiner, while the lower end is about 8 miles northeast of the town of Livingston. The photos were taken on April 11, 1999 and the pixel resolution is six inches, or 0.1524 meters. The length of the project is approximately 47 river miles. About 38 miles of imagery is monochrome black and white, while about 9 miles of imagery centered on the town of Livingston are in color.

This data set was prepared for the Omaha District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by Surdex Corporation.
Purpose:
The data was originally collected to suppor digital topographic mappping:
a) as a base map for hydraulic flood plain delineation,
b) as a base map for mapping riverine geomorphology and flood plain attributes, and
c) as a base map for monitoring long-term channel changes.

This work was performed in support of the Upper Yellowstone River Cumulative Effects Investigation and in cooperation with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (Water Management Bureau) and the Montana District U.S. Geological Survey (Water Resources Division).

Data Quality Information:
Attribute accuracy report:
The data set meets the National Map Accuracy Standards for 100 feet per inch horizontal mapping.

Logical consistency report:
The DEM data used to create the digital orthophotographs was collected utilizing current methodologies of stereo compilation. Mass points and breaklines were collected with enough density to support 100 foot per inch digital orthophotagraphy.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report:
The horizontal positional accuracy of this data set meets NMAS for 100 foot per inch digital orthophotography and topographic mapping.
Quantitative horizontal positional accuracy assessment:
Horizontal positional accuracy value: 3.33 feet
Horizontal positional accuracy explanation:
Orthophotography - 90 per cent of all well defined features are within +/_ 3.33 foot positional accuracy

Process step:
The aerial photography was flown by MAP, Inc (406) 549-0451 of Missoula, MT. The photography used for this mapping effort was the BW 1 to 8000 scale (11 lines) and the color 1 to 6000 scale (3 lines) following the Yellowstone River from a 1.5 miles north of Carbella to 3 miles upstream of Sheep Mtn. The original control was planned by Dan Maier / USDA FS Northern Region (406) 329-3694 and surveyed by Don Patterson, Land Surveyor 406.329.3430.

Additional control surveys were needed for the 2 feet contour interval area and were done by Surdex Corporation, Larry Bade, L.S. Aerial Triangulation was done for both the 1 to 6000 and 8000 scale photography using softcopy workstations by Surdex using Albany software.
