Abstract:

The Montana Precipitation Timing is an expression of the percentage of annual precipitation that occurs within the growing season.  The percentage of precipitation is based on 30-year average precipitation data within the growing season.  The growing season is defined as May 1 – September 30.

Purpose:

For display of precipitation timing within a growing season (5/1-9/30) across Montana and input into decision processes that require knowledge of precipitation timing.

Process step:

Data was extracted from 30-year average precipitation data (1971-2000).  Lines were digitized denoting the percentage of precipitation that falls within the growing season.  These isolines were attributed with appropriate values of percentage of precipitation falling within the growing season.

Process step:

Interpolated Montana Precipitation Timing from digitized isolines.
